method for watering rocks

I recently set up my tent and have been having some issues with adding water to the rocks and producing steam. Haven't found any related concerns online, so I'm wondering if anyone else here has experienced the same or has any advice.

1) When I add more than a drizzle of water to the rocks, the water runs into the bottom of the rock holder and scalding water spurts out and across the tent. I always wait until the temperature in the tent reaches 180F+ for several minutes before steaming, but maybe the rocks still aren't hot enough...?

2) The tent never gets very steamy (even if I dump a lot of water on the rocks at once). This is probably related to issue 1, but as I'm used to wood saunas, I was wondering if it's just more difficult to make the tent steamy.

Any advice is appreciated!

Emma! Do you mind sharing a picture of your stove and rock set up?

Hi Emma! One thing I have found that helps is not using cold water as it cools the rocks pretty quickly.

@emma Hello! How long from lighting the fire to throwing water on the rocks do you usually wait? For me I usually wait about 40 mins and the water evaporates pretty much instantly when I throw it on there.

Where is your thermometer placed?
