Questions for the "Seasoned" ones
OK new tent owner and have to admit I have a lot to learn.
I thought it would be good to get some questions answered from some folks who have had their tents for a while.
Here are some questions to kick off the discussion.
Set Up:
I had the stove parallel to the wall on the first session. I noted that some have it with back to the wall. Any reason for either set up?
I initially opened the windows to let light in during set up and lighting. Do you close them for warm up or is the heat savings negligible?
Do you leave doors open during lighting and initial burn to get max air in and let any smoke out before draft starts pulling it out?
Venting:
I opened the lower vent by the stove and left it wide open. I opened the triangle one fully and then metered it closed once fire was bucking. The roof one is only accessible from outside and is mostly blocked by the rain cover. I read somewhere to open this at the end of a session to let moisture out. Is that true and that leads to next question. How do you dry out the inside of the tent in practice? I stoked it hot and opened all the vents but still had moisture in the tent when fire burned out.
I have seen some set up on decking. Do you cover the floor when using a deck? Seems to me counterintuitive to have that much draft air coming in.
Storage:
Stove is a bitch to get in the bag and may go to a canvas bag. Any body use something different to protect their stove?
Chimney pipes don't seem to have a home for storage. Any creative ideas to keep them from getting dented and damaged?
With the aforementioned moisture I am going to put my tent up in my hangar and let it dry out. Is this something that is a must do?
Does anyone have an anti-mildew and mold product they have used that doesn't vent when heated? I am in cold country but the moisture in warmer months seems like it will be a problem.
Aftermarket:
I want more stones to hold and even out heat. The mini box with Sweat Tent is not nearly enough. I have seen the "other" company that uses the same stove that has a basket for the complete top of stove and also side pockets. Any creative solutions out there?
The steam generator on the stove pipe is also interesting concept. Anyone have one and what brand do you use?
Oils for a steam bucket or generator are interesting. They sell them here at Sweat Tent. Without trying to go around our host, what solutions do you use?
Remote temp. Anyone using a wifi or bluetooth temp sensor for preheating?
Thanks in advance and hope this thread is lively and others ask newby questions to add to it.
