Sweat tent smell

I really wanted to like this sweattent set up. It arrived earlier this week. I seasoned the stove for four hours This afternoon. I got the fire ready before dinner and went in after dinner, about 30 minutes later. Two biggest issues were the tent was smokey and it smelled like burning chemicals. the temperature did not get all that hot either. It was stuck at around 120. What is up with the chemical smell? Has anyone experienced this? if So does it go away?

Hi paul!

when you seasoned your stove did you season it outside the tent with the rocks and holder? This is a very important and safe step druing the process. If not this explains why your tent got smoked out. otherwise i would recommend what maxheat mentioned. To further my first comment i actually did a second burn to ensure ALL chemicals and oils burned off. hope this helped!

Did you wash the rocks thoroughly as the directions indicate? I had a small amount of this smell/smoke from the rocks, but only on the very first use.

Hey Paul, this is unfortunate and unusual. Here are a couple things to check regarding the smokiness:

  • Check that all chimney components are securely attached to prevent smoke leakage.
  • Inspect the rope sealant inside the door and around the glass. Replace if necessary.
  • If both of those things are secure, season your stove again for good measure.

Regarding the lack of heat, ensure the rectangular air intake vent at the tent's bottom is open and use dry firewood. Incrementally add firewood as the fire burns to increase heat.

Let me know if any of this helps!
